About Folia Sinfonia

Founded in January 2024 in Quebec City, Folia Sinfonia is an early music ensemble created out of deep passion and love for early music, and with the aim of sharing repertoires with a wide audience. Our programs span the richness of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music. The name Folia Sinfonia draws inspiration from Disney’s Silly Symphony animations, celebrated for their creativity — a quality we consider essential in music-making. The word Folia itself carries layered meanings: while it translates as “madness” or “folly,” it also refers to a famous musical theme that flourished in the 17th century Baroque period. Composers such as Lully, Corelli, and Vivaldi all left their mark on this timeless tune.Folia Sinfonia was founded by Kevin Wun Pong Yeung, who plays harpsichord and recorders, together with Holly Gallan, an amateur violinist. United by their passion for early music, Kevin and Holly envisioned creating a baroque ensemble that could bring this vibrant repertoire to life for today’s audiences.

As a child, he actively participated in concerts and community performances across schools, shopping malls, and cultural events.Today, Kevin continues to expand his expertise through studies in partimento and Baroque composition, as well as formal harpsichord training.
